|Dallas moving forward on new golf course construction deal|
The Dallas city council is taking steps to have a new golf facility designed and built in the nation's 9th largest city. The "Dallas Morning News" reported Dec. 12 there is hope the course will attract a PGA Tour event.
From the "Dallas Morning News" article by Rudolph Bush:
"A unanimous Dallas City Council authorized City Manager Mary Suhm on Wednesday to move forward on a deal for a championship golf course in southern Dallas along Loop 12.
"Southern Dallas council members were particularly supportive of the plan, which will see the city partner with AT&T and Southern Methodist University on the new course.
"City Hall’s hope is that it will draw the HP Byron Nelson Championship to Dallas from Irving, provide facilities for SMU’s golf team and include a nine-hole course for young golfers who don’t have access to the game.
"The vote belied some underlying tension over the golf course plan, however.
"Council member Angela Hunt asked Suhm to reiterate that the council’s vote simply gives her the authority to work on a deal.
"That’s accurate, Suhm said.
“'We’ll bring back a contract to you with all the details you will have to approve,' she said."
