Golfing World Eyes Pinehurst No. 2,
Designed by ASGCA Founder

The eyes of the golfing world will turn to Pinehurst No. 2, in Pinehurst, N.C., June 16-19 for the 2005 U.S. Open. The venerable layout was designed by Donald J. Ross, honorary president and founder of the American Society of Golf Course Architects. Pinehurst was also the site of the first ASGCA Annual Meeting, held December 5, 1947.

Founding Fathers

Ten of the 14 charter members of The American Society of Golf Course Architects were
in attendance at the first ASGCA Annual Meeting. Shown near the 18th green of Pinehurst

ASGCA Background

Founded in 1946 by 14 leading architects, including Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the American Society of Golf Course Architects is a non-profit organization comprised of 180 golf course designers located throughout the United States and Canada. Members are actively involved in the design of new courses, the renovation of existing layouts, and issues affecting the future of the game.
